Shaney Britz is a 24-year-old biokineticist who graduated from North-West University (NWU) in 2024 with a BHSc in Biokinetics.

She has been active throughout her life, participating in sports such as South African gymnastics, athletics (200m and long jump), and netball. With an active lifestyle came multiple injuries, which shaped her deep understanding of rehabilitation, resilience, and the importance of correct movement.

Biokinetics, a profession not widely known, played a pivotal role in helping her recover from injuries, strengthen her body, and prevent future setbacks. This journey inspired her passion for helping others regain confidence in their bodies and abilities.

Shaney is driven by a love for learning, personal growth, and challenging perceived limitations. She believes in creating opportunities where others may believe there is no way, and she strives not only to encourage change, but to be the change.

Her mission is to make the value of movement and exercise widely understood — not just for sport or performance, but for everything: physical health, mental well-being, confidence, and independence in daily life.

WHAT IS biokinetics

Biokinetics is a recognised healthcare profession focused on the use of scientifically prescribed exercise to prevent injury, restore function, and improve physical performance.

Biokinetics work with individuals after the acute pain or medical phase, using movement therapy to:

  • Improve strength, mobility, and joint stability

  • Correct movement patterns and compensations

  • Reduce the risk of re-injury

  • Support independence and quality of life

Biokinetics forms part of the broader healthcare team and works in collaboration with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.

Medical Aid-Supported Programmes

Selected biokinetics services may be supported by medical aid schemes, subject to individual plan benefits and scheme approval. Clients are encouraged to confirm coverage directly with their medical aid provider.
